The Mysterious Smile

(This is my little creative writing excerise to get me back into writing again. Everything is a work of fiction, inspired by the people around me)

The car comes to a stop at the crosswalk allowing the men from the nearby AA meeting to get to the otherside of the street. I scan my eyes over them one by one as they passed infront of my car. One guy in particular met my gaze as he stolled past me. His eyes were dark brown and tired from the long alcohol abuse. He dress in old blue jeans and a white t-shirt. In his hand, he held a bottle of water which had been twisted at the top from fighting the urges to drink. There was no wedding band on his marriage finger and he seemed anxious about something; his eyes on alert. As he continued across, he kept glancing back at me. Once: when he had sucessful passed the car. Twice: when he was near the sidewalk. Third: when his feet made it onto the sidewalk away from the street. I wondered what his thoughts were exactly. Or if he even wondered why I was observing him so thoroughly. I couldn’t help but notice the corners of his lips start to form into a smile. I turned away and focusd forward. When the light turned green, I took one last look as he walked off into the dark down the road, possibly to his mothers house; stepping on the gas I headed home myself.
